Taking the term ‘Seafood (as in Seefood)’ to new and quite literal heights (or depths as the case may be) – the world’s first underwater club has now transformed itself into an incredible underwater dining experience in the Maldives.
The upscale restaurant is called Subsix and forms part of the exclusive PER AQUUM Niyama Resort in the Maldives and the restaurant sits twenty feet below the azure waters of the Indian ocean. Guests are transported to this underwater haven by speedboat transfer, where they then descend down into the depths of the restaurant via a grandiose three tier staircase, where a magical underwater world awaits them.
The decor is stylish and contemporary – mirroring the sub aquatic goings on outside, taking inspiration from the ocean in the form of anemone styled chairs, a giant oyster shaped bar and twinkling coral lighting designs. Floor to ceiling glass windows show off panaromic views of marine goings-on and diners can expect to see any number of the 90 coral reef species that inhabit the seas in that beautiful part of the world.
Whilst consuming their high class grub, diners are no doubt distracted by the beauty of the views surrounding them and it’s common to see many forms of marine life including moray eels, butterfly fish, parrotfish and if they’re lucky – a hawksbill sea turtle.
The Subsix restaurant is now available for dinners, weddings and wine-tasting evenings. So instead of sleeping with the fishes, you’ll get to dine with them instead
